Shades
Full length musical in two acts; Music and Lyrics by Philip Seward
Book and additional lycis by Steven Gillam

Aspiring singer/songwriter Geoff Spencer takes the plunge and moves to New York City. Faced with the rising cost of housing, he moves into a haunted apartment. Shades, the former Susan Hade, was murdered by her fiance in the 40’s and is forced to haunt the apartment until she finds true love. She is joined by her friend, Elizabeth, also murdered in the apartment in the 1890’s. Together the two ghosts speculate whether or not Geoff will be the one to fall in love as Geoff seeks his muse to compose the perfect song.

With a score that moves between period music of the forties and pop songs, this show offers a touching look at the meaning of love and inspiration.

Shades developed over a period of time and settled into a comical form with a serious undertone.
